Pacific截止阀是用于节流工况或者既有节流又有切断的要求。它们也可以用作切断要求，但由于高压降的缘故，一般情况下只局限于阀门常闭的工况，当阀门打开的时候介质压降并不重要。

通常情况下，截止阀采用流体下入上出的安装方式，但在某些特定条件下，流体上入下出的方式可能会有利。

标准截止阀，由于设计可用于节流和切断，不应该在不到10%的开度下长期进行节流。如此会发生内件损伤。采用一个较小口径的阀门或者使用V型口阀芯，以增加阀门的开度，往往能够解决这样的问题。

V型口阀芯与旋塞阀或球阀相比，具有更接近线性的节流曲线，但这些类型的阀芯并不建议使用在连续苛刻的调节工况，此时或许要求使用一台控制阀。

Globe valves are used where throttling or both throttling and shutoff are required. They can also be used for on-off service, but because of high pressure drop, this is generally confined to applications where the valve is normally closed and pressure drop is not important when the valve is open.

Normally globe valves are installed with flow under the disc, but under certain conditions flow over the disc may have advantages.

Standard globe valves, because they are designed for both throttling and shutoff, should not be used for prolonged throttling at less than 10% open. Internal damage can occur. Using a smaller valve or V-port trim to increase the percent open will often solve this problem.

V-port trim has a more linear throttling curve than plug or ball discs, but none of these trims are recommended for continuous severe throttling which may require using a control valve.
